Easy Pasta Flora

Pasta Flora is a traditional Greek dessert tart with jam, very simple to prepare! This classic treat is one of the easiest desserts in Greek cuisine, made with ingredients commonly found at home. Perfect to enjoy with a cup of coffee or as an afternoon snack with tea.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 150 g butter, at room temperature

  • 1 egg yolk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1 cup jam (apricot or strawberry) for filling

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer, beat the butter with the sugar until creamy.

  2. Add the egg yolk and vanilla, and mix until fully combined.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour with baking powder and salt, then gradually add it to the butter mixture. Knead until a soft dough forms.

  4. Cover the dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes to rest.

  5. Roll out two-thirds of the dough and place it in a buttered baking pan. Spread the jam evenly over the dough.

  6. Roll out the remaining dough, cut it into strips, and arrange them in a lattice pattern over the jam.

  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown.

  8. Allow to cool slightly, then cut and serve.
