Cinnamon rolls are one of the most famous Western desserts, loved for their aromatic scent and rich cinnamon flavor. They feature soft, rolled dough filled with a cinnamon-sugar mixture and topped with a creamy sauce that melts in your mouth.
Ingredients:
For the filling:
Sugar: ½ cup
Cinnamon: 1 tbsp
Butter: ¼ cup (melted)
For the cinnamon sauce:
Butter: ½ cup
Brown sugar: ½ cup
Milk: ¼ cup
Vanilla: 1 tsp
For the dough:
Milk: 1 cup (warm)
Instant yeast: 1 tsp
Sugar: 1 tbsp
Butter: ½ cup (melted)
Egg: 1
Salt: a pinch
Flour: 2 cups
Baking powder: 1 tsp
Instructions:
Activate yeast: Mix warm milk, yeast, and sugar in a bowl and let sit for 5 minutes until yeast becomes active.
Combine wet ingredients: Add melted butter, egg, and salt, then whisk well.
Prepare dry mix: In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder.
Make dough: Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until you have a soft, smooth dough.
Let dough rise: Cover the dough and leave it in a warm place for 60 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
Prepare the filling: Mix sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter in a bowl until smooth.
Roll the dough: On a floured surface, roll out the dough, spread the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly, roll into a log, and cut into thick slices.
Arrange rolls: Place the slices in a buttered baking pan, cover, and let rest for 15 minutes.
Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F) and bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Make the sauce: In a saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla. Cook on low heat, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth.
Serve: Pour the warm sauce over the hot cinnamon rolls and serve warm or at room temperature.
