WhatsApp Tests New Feature Linking Facebook Profiles Directly to User Accounts

WhatsApp, owned by the U.S. tech giant Meta, has unveiled a new feature that allows beta testers to add links to their Facebook profiles directly from their WhatsApp accounts, according to the latest Android beta release.

As reported by WABetaInfo, a website specializing in WhatsApp updates, the new feature enables users to include a shortcut link to their Facebook profiles within their WhatsApp profiles. This link will appear on the user’s profile and can be viewed by others, making it easier for people to visit their Facebook page and connect.

Users will be able to verify the link through the Accounts Center to confirm ownership, though unverified links can still be displayed without affecting the overall WhatsApp experience.

Facebook–WhatsApp Link Is Optional

Adding a Facebook link to WhatsApp is completely optional.
Users can choose to share either a verified or unverified link.

  • Verified links will appear with a small icon indicating that the same person manages both accounts.

  • Unverified links will simply display a generic icon and the full URL, without proof of ownership.

WhatsApp also offers privacy controls for this feature.
By navigating to Settings → Privacy → Links, users can decide who can see their Facebook link:

  • Everyone

  • Contacts only

  • Specific people

  • Or keep it entirely private.

More from Meta: A “Numberless Era” and Major WhatsApp Updates

Meta recently announced what it called the biggest update in WhatsApp’s history, signaling a move toward a “numberless era” where phone numbers may eventually become less central to user identity and connections.

About WhatsApp

WhatsApp is a free messaging app that allows users to send text and voice messages, share photos, videos, and documents, and make voice and video calls over Wi-Fi or mobile data.
The app features end-to-end encryption for enhanced privacy and security.

Founded by Jan Koum and Brian Acton, both former Yahoo employees with a combined 20 years of experience, WhatsApp joined Facebook (now Meta) in 2014 but continues to operate as an independent service focused on delivering fast, reliable messaging worldwide.

The app’s name, “WhatsApp,” is a playful twist on the English phrase “What’s up?” — meaning “How are you?” or “What’s new?”
