French Crème Brûlée

Crème brûlée is a luxurious French dessert, famous for its crisp caramelized sugar layer. It’s perfect for lovers of creamy desserts and can be easily prepared at home by following these steps.

Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Serves: 3 people

Ingredients:

  • Sugar: ½ cup

  • Egg yolks: 5

  • Heavy cream: 1½ cups (liquid)

  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon (liquid)

  • Sugar: as needed (for topping)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla. Whisk well by hand until the mixture becomes creamy.

  2. Heat the cream over medium-low heat until hot.

  3. Gradually pour the hot cream into the egg mixture while continuing to whisk until fully combined.

  4. Pour the mixture into a large baking dish or small individual ramekins, as desired. Place them in a deep baking tray and pour hot water into the tray until it reaches halfway up the sides of the dishes.

  5. Bake in the oven at 150°C (300°F) for 40 minutes, until the custard is set.

  6. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely, then refrigerate overnight.

  7. Before serving, sprinkle sugar on top and caramelize it using a torch or broiler until golden and crispy. Serve immediately.
