Best Ways to Clean and Care for White Shoes

White shoes look elegant and attractive when they are new and clean, but they easily get dirty with daily use. Fortunately, it is very easy to clean your shoes and remove stains using simple tools available at home.

Whether you wear your favorite sneakers, canvas lace-up shoes, or white leather shoes, here are the best ways to care for white shoes.

Soap and Water for Cleaning White Shoes

Soap and water are one of the best methods for cleaning shoes, including canvas shoes, tennis shoes, and white leather shoes.

Here is how:

Mix one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with one cup of warm water until the solution becomes slightly foamy but still clear. Stir the cleaning solution well.

Using a soft cloth or a toothbrush, gently scrub the shoe with the mixture using circular motions.

If you prefer not to use dish soap, you can replace it with half a cup of white vinegar.

Scrub stains using a toothbrush with firm bristles. Dip the brush in water until the bristles are wet, then move it in small circular motions over the surface of your white shoes, focusing on heavily stained areas.

Apply light pressure to spread the cleaning solution into the fabric.

Clean the sole and rubber parts using a magic eraser. Dip the eraser in soapy water and squeeze out excess water.

Wipe the leather, rubber, or plastic parts of the shoe using short back-and-forth motions until all marks and stains disappear.

Dry excess water with a towel. Avoid rubbing the fabric too hard. Simply blot the surface to remove extra moisture.

After towel drying, place the shoes in a well-ventilated area at home until they dry completely.

Leave them for at least two to three hours before wearing them again.

Bleach Solution for Cleaning White Shoes

Mix one part bleach with five parts water.

Always work in a well-ventilated area and wear nitrile gloves while using bleach to avoid skin irritation.

Use a toothbrush with small circular motions to break down stains.

Dip the toothbrush into the bleach solution and start gently scrubbing your shoes.

Focus on dirty areas and deep stains while applying light pressure to the fabric.

You will notice stains beginning to disappear.

Start with the fabric first before moving to harder surfaces such as the sole.

Wipe the bleach solution off your shoes using a damp towel.

Wet a soft microfiber towel with clean warm water and squeeze it until it is only slightly damp.

Gently press and wipe the towel over the shoes.

You can also remove the insoles and rinse them under running water.

Let the shoes dry in a well-ventilated place for at least five to six hours before wearing them again.

Baking Soda and Vinegar for Cleaning White Shoes

Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with one tablespoon of vinegar and one tablespoon of hot water until a thick paste forms.

You will immediately notice bubbling as the baking soda reacts with the vinegar.

If the paste is too thin, add one extra teaspoon of baking soda.

Use a toothbrush to scrub the baking soda paste into your shoes.

Dip the toothbrush into the paste, then scrub it onto the shoe fabric.

Press gently so the fabric absorbs the paste.

Cover all the outer surfaces of the shoe with the baking soda paste.

Rinse the toothbrush well afterward so the paste does not dry on the bristles.

Leave the paste to dry on the shoes for three to four hours.

Place the shoes in direct sunlight until the paste dries and hardens.

Leave them outside if possible, or place them near a sunny window or in a well-ventilated room.

Once dry, tap the soles of the shoes together outside so the dried paste breaks apart and falls off.

If any dried paste remains, brush it away using a dry toothbrush until your shoes are completely clean.
