Google has revealed a new collaboration with the tech giant Apple aimed at developing a more advanced and flexible version of the voice assistant Siri, based on Gemini model technology, with plans to make it available to users in 2026.
Developing the Next Generation of Siri
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, stated during the Google Cloud Next 2026 conference that this partnership focuses on building an advanced generation of Apple’s foundational models using Gemini. The goal is to enhance Apple Intelligence features, particularly an improved version of Siri capable of delivering a smarter and more personalized user experience.
Delays and Performance Challenges
Despite the announced timeline, exact release details remain unclear.
Apple had previously delayed the rollout of the upgraded Siri due to performance and quality challenges, before reaffirming its intention to launch it in 2026. Early previews are expected to appear in iOS 27.
A Cloud-Powered AI Future
The technical infrastructure remains a key aspect of the collaboration. It is still unclear whether the new Siri will rely on Apple’s own cloud systems or Google’s servers. Reports also suggest Apple may develop dedicated server infrastructure within its data centers in partnership with Google to support increased reliance on cloud-based AI processing.
Apple is expected to reveal more details during WWDC 2026 in June, where it may showcase the first glimpse of Siri’s AI-powered future.
