Healthy Cooked Lentils

Cooked lentils are a nutritious dish rich in protein and fiber, making them an excellent choice for a healthy, balanced meal. Cooking them in a healthy way preserves their nutritional value and natural flavor, using minimal oil and light spices, resulting in a wholesome, easy-to-digest dish suitable for the whole family.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup lentils (red, brown, or yellow; washed and drained)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 carrot, diced into small cubes

  • 1 tomato, finely chopped

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • Salt, to taste

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp cumin

  • 3 cups water

Instructions

  1. In a pot over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add the onion and sauté until soft.

  2. Add the garlic and carrot, stir for 1 minute. Then add the lentils and mix well.

  3. Pour in the water, then add salt, black pepper, cumin, and tomato.

  4. Cover the pot and cook over medium heat for 20–25 minutes, or until the lentils are tender.

  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

  6. Serve hot as a healthy and nutritious meal.
