WhatsApp Develops New Group Voice and Video Calling Feature for WhatsApp Web

WhatsApp is currently developing a new feature that will be added to WhatsApp Web, enabling users to make group voice and video calls, regardless of the device version they are using. Thanks to this upcoming feature, users will be able to create call links and schedule calls, although the feature is still under development.

The new update aims to make the desktop and web experience more powerful and convenient. Users will be able to rely on WhatsApp Web to make calls without the need to install a native desktop application. In addition, the feature will give users more control over call notifications received through WhatsApp Web.

Making Calls via WhatsApp Web

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is actively working on adding voice and video calling capabilities, which means the feature is not yet available to users. Following recent updates to the experimental version of WhatsApp Web, the platform is now improving its core calling functions to fully support group chats.

The new improvements will allow all users to participate in group calls regardless of the device they are using. Similar to calls made on WhatsApp for Android and iOS, calls conducted via the web app will be subject to certain limitations.

It is also expected that the new feature will support up to 32 participants per call. This limit is intended to ensure a stable, high-quality calling experience and avoid interruptions. However, WhatsApp has not yet confirmed whether group calls will initially support a smaller number of participants—such as 8 or 16—before gradually expanding to 32 participants.

Creating a Direct Call Link on WhatsApp

As part of an effort to unify the user experience across the web and desktop platforms, WhatsApp is developing a feature that allows users to create a direct call link from within a group chat interface. This feature will enable users to instantly generate a shareable link that others can use to join a voice or video call.

What’s new is that WhatsApp is also working on a call scheduling feature for both individual and group chats. Scheduled calls will include a name and description to clarify the purpose of the meeting. Users will be able to control the start and end times, and WhatsApp will provide call reminders to relevant participants.

This update reflects WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance collaboration and communication across platforms.
