Awameh, also known as Luqmat Al-Qadi, is one of the most popular Middle Eastern desserts. It is loved for its crispy exterior and soft, fluffy interior. These syrup-soaked golden balls are a cherished part of Arab culinary heritage.
Cooking Time:
60 minutes
Serves:
5 people
Ingredients
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
A pinch of salt
Warm water, as needed
Oil, for deep frying
Sugar syrup (qatir/attir), as desired for serving
Method
In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, cornstarch, yeast, sugar, and salt.
Gradually add warm water and mix until a smooth batter forms. Cover and let it ferment for 60 minutes.
Heat plenty of oil over medium heat. Using a small spoon, shape the batter into small balls.
Fry the balls until golden in color, then immediately transfer them into cold sugar syrup.
Leave the awameh in the syrup for a few minutes, then drain and serve.
