Homemade Clotted Cream Substitute

Clotted cream is a dairy product widely used in many desserts, serving as a main filling for various Middle Eastern sweets like qatayef, basbousa, and more. If you don’t have ready-made clotted cream, here’s an easy way to make a homemade substitute following Saidati Kitchen’s method.

Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 5 people

Ingredients

  • Water: 2 cups

  • Milk powder: ½ cup

  • Cornstarch: ¼ cup

  • Flour: ¼ cup

  • Clotted cream: 1 small container

Instructions

  1. In a pot, combine milk powder, cornstarch, flour, and water. Stir well.

  2. Place the pot over medium heat and cook, stirring continuously, until the mixture thickens. Then remove from heat.

  3. Add the clotted cream and stir until fully blended.

  4. Use the homemade clotted cream substitute immediately, or cover and store for later use to prevent a skin from forming on the surface.
