Meta Platforms, the company behind WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, has announced a new feature for Facebook users that allows artificial intelligence (AI) to suggest edits to photos stored on a user’s phone, even if the images haven’t been uploaded online.
New Feature for Facebook Users
This feature enables Facebook to analyze photos in the camera album—with the user’s permission—and provide editing suggestions, such as:
-
Enhancing colors
-
Creating collages
-
Preparing customized images for occasions like birthdays or trips
AI-Based Photo Editing Suggestions
The feature relies on cloud processing:
-
Photos are temporarily uploaded to Meta servers to be analyzed by advanced AI tools.
-
The data is used exclusively for editing suggestions.
-
Photos will not be used for advertising or AI training without the user’s consent.
Optional Feature
-
Users can enable or disable the feature anytime via Settings under “Camera Photo Sharing Suggestions.”
-
All photos are automatically deleted from Meta servers after processing to ensure user privacy.
Meta had previously confirmed that it trained its AI systems last year using all public photos and texts shared by adult users on Facebook and Instagram since 2007.
