Light Basmati Rice (Diet-Friendly)

Rice is one of the main staples on the Arab table, with many varieties that differ in taste, grain size, cooking methods, and uses. Among these, long-grain basmati rice stands out as light on the stomach, quick to prepare, and easy to digest — making it a great choice for a healthy, diet-friendly meal.

Cook Time: 30 minutes
Serves: 4 people

Ingredients

  • 500 g (½ kg) basmati rice

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp white pepper

Preparation

  1. Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 10 minutes. Drain well.

  2. In a pot over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil. Add salt, white pepper, and the drained rice.

  3. Cover the rice with boiling water.

  4. Cook over high heat for about 5 minutes, until most of the water is absorbed.

  5. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot tightly, and let it cook for about 30 minutes.

  6. Once cooked, turn off the heat and let the rice rest (covered) for 2 minutes.

  7. Fluff gently with a fork and transfer to a serving dish.
