Google Launches Advanced AI Photo Editing: Nano Banana in Gemini

A few weeks ago, Google unveiled a new AI-powered photo editing feature called Nano Banana, described as the most advanced version of its Gemini photo-editing tools. The model focuses on preserving the visual identity of people or objects with high accuracy and quality. Nano Banana has outperformed other models like ChatGPT-4o, FLUX.1 Kontext, and Qwen Image Edit in user preference ratings. The feature is now available globally to all Gemini app users.

How Nano Banana Works

According to Google’s official blog, the model allows users to edit images seamlessly while keeping the subject’s identity intact. Examples include changing a room’s background or placing yourself in a different location. Key features include:

1. Advanced Editing

  • Modify clothing, background, or location while preserving your true appearance.

  • Upload a pet photo and place it in various scenarios or historical eras.

2. Image Merging

  • Combine multiple people into a single frame.

  • Add yourself next to your pet anywhere in the world.

3. Multi-Role Editing

  • Edit images directly after taking them with Gemini’s camera.

  • Example: Start with an empty room and add furniture or decor items to complete the scene.

All edited images will include a watermark indicating they are AI-generated.
