Brioche is a type of French bread, known for its soft, airy texture and rich buttery flavor. Serve it warm with jam, honey, or a cup of tea or coffee.
Ingredients:
-
3 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 tbsp instant yeast
-
¼ cup sugar
-
1 tsp salt
-
½ cup warm milk
-
2 large eggs
-
140 g unsalted butter, soft and cut into small cubes
-
1 egg yolk, beaten (for brushing the top)
-
1 tsp milk (for brushing the top)
Instructions:
-
Prepare the dough:
-
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
-
In another bowl, whisk the warm milk with the eggs.
-
Add the milk and egg mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
-
-
Kneading and adding butter:
-
Knead the dough with an electric mixer for 5 minutes until smooth.
-
Gradually add the soft butter, piece by piece, and continue kneading for 10–15 minutes until fully incorporated and the dough becomes soft and elastic.
-
The dough will be sticky at first but will firm up as you knead.
-
-
First rise:
-
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1.5–2 hours, until it doubles in size.
-
-
Shaping and second rise:
-
Gently press the dough to release air.
-
Shape it as desired: braid, small rolls, or a large loaf in a rectangular pan.
-
Place the shaped dough on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, cover, and let it rise for another hour.
-
-
Baking:
-
Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
-
Brush the dough with the egg yolk and milk mixture for a shiny golden top.
-
Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and fully cooked.
-
Remove from oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
