Samosas are one of the most popular appetizers during Ramadan, especially in Arabic kitchens. With a variety of fillings and preparation methods, this version of Saudi samosas with cheese is simple to make and perfect for sharing with your family alongside main dishes and soups.
Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Serves: 6 people
Ingredients:
For the filling:
- 2 ½ cups mozzarella cheese (grated)
- ¾ cup parsley (chopped)
- ¼ cup mint (chopped)
For the dough:
- 2 cups flour
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- ½ teaspoon yeast
- Pinch of salt
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Dough:
- Dissolve the yeast in ¼ cup of warm water and let it sit until it activates.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and vegetable oil together. Add the yeast mixture and knead the ingredients well by hand.
- Gradually add the remaining water and knead until you form a soft and smooth dough.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for an hour at room temperature.
-
Prepare the Filling:
- In a bowl, combine the grated mozzarella cheese, chopped parsley, and chopped mint. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
-
Shape the Samosas:
- Divide the dough into small, equal-sized portions. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten it into a small circle.
- Place about one tablespoon of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges to seal the filling inside, forming a triangle or half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly to ensure they are well sealed.
-
Fry the Samosas:
- Heat vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully fry the samosas until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides.
-
Serve:
- Remove the samosas from the oil and drain any excess oil on paper towels.
- Place the samosas on a serving plate and enjoy!
