- Vegetable shortening: 1/2 cup
- Sugar: 1 3/4 cups
- Orange juice: 4 tablespoons
- Baking powder: 2 teaspoons
- Orange peel: 1 (grated)
- Milk: 1 cup
- Flour: 3 cups
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a deep bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt and liquid vanilla using a hand mixer until completely combined and stiff.
- In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks, then add the shortening, sugar, and orange juice. Continue mixing until fully combined and the sugar dissolves.
- Add the baking powder, grated orange peel, and milk to the yolk mixture and whisk together.
- Gradually add the flour to the yolk mixture while mixing until you get a smooth consistency.
- Gently fold the egg yolk mixture into the egg white mixture and mix carefully until fully combined.
- Grease a cake pan with shortening and dust it with flour. Pour the batter into the pan.
- Bake for about 40 minutes or until the cake is fully cooked.
- Let the cake cool to room temperature before slicing and serving.
