WhatsApp Tests a New “Liquid Glass” Design for Chat Interface

The instant messaging platform WhatsApp is currently testing a new visual update that redesigns the chat interface and navigation bar using a modern style known as Liquid Glass.

This design approach focuses on transparency and layered visual effects to create a sense of depth and movement, giving the app a smoother and more advanced appearance. It also aligns WhatsApp with modern operating system design trends, especially those seen in iOS 26.

An Innovative Interface Inspired by Liquid Glass

The new update is not limited to simple cosmetic changes—it includes a complete redesign of user interface elements inside the chat screen.

The “liquid glass” effect has been added to the top chat bar, making interface elements appear as if they are floating above the background. This design improves the visibility of text and content through transparent layers and subtle gradients, helping users read messages more clearly without causing visual distraction.

Dynamic Interaction with the Background

The bottom navigation bar has also been redesigned to match the same visual philosophy. Icon placement has been improved to create better balance, along with the addition of soft blur effects that interact intelligently with the app’s background.

This interaction gives WhatsApp a more modern and harmonious look, especially on iPhone devices, which benefit more from these visual enhancements.

Testing Phases Before Official Release

So far, these changes are still under development in beta versions of the app. They are first being tested internally before becoming available to a limited number of users through the TestFlight program.

The new interface is expected to go through further improvements and adjustments based on user feedback and testing experiences before it is officially approved and released to all users in the future.
