Google has reported a significant shift in the nature of cyber threats after detecting what appears to be the first known use of artificial intelligence in executing a highly advanced Zero-Day cyberattack.

According to a report cited by Forbes, attackers used advanced AI models to automatically identify a previously unknown vulnerability within an open-source system management tool. This vulnerability was then exploited to generate malicious code capable of carrying out the attack with minimal human involvement and at a much faster pace than traditional methods.

Google’s Threat Intelligence teams stated that the attack was contained early, preventing it from spreading into a large-scale breach. However, the incident is considered a major milestone in cybersecurity history, as it represents the first documented case where AI played a near-autonomous role in discovering and exploiting a Zero-Day vulnerability.

Security experts also warned that state-linked hacking groups associated with countries such as Russia, China, and North Korea are increasingly integrating AI into their cyber operations. These tools are no longer limited to phishing emails or malware creation, but are now being used for target analysis, automated decision-making, and more sophisticated attack planning.
