WhatsApp Introduces “Contacts Hub” Feature to Improve Messaging Experience

In a move aimed at making it easier to start instant conversations and connect with active contacts more quickly and efficiently, the instant messaging app WhatsApp is developing a new feature for Android called “Contacts Hub.” This feature will show users which of their contacts are currently online.

Contacts Hub Feature in WhatsApp
According to the latest beta version of the app (version 2.26.13.3), this feature will display a list of contacts who are currently connected. It aims to provide a clearer overview of active contacts at a glance.

Simplifying the Messaging Experience
Contacts can be sorted by name or connection status. Active (online) contacts will appear first, while offline users will be listed afterward, sorted by their last seen status. Through this feature, WhatsApp aims to simplify the messaging experience.

A Comprehensive View of Available Contacts
With the new “Contacts Hub” feature, users will be able to get a complete overview of people available for communication without having to browse chats one by one.

Additionally, Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, plans to add a section within the app settings to make contact management easier. This section will include suggestions for adding unsaved contacts—especially those users frequently interacted with in groups or individual chats—while respecting user privacy and preferences related to last seen and online status.

Release Date of the New Feature
The feature is still under development, and there is no confirmed official release date yet. However, it is expected to be rolled out in a future update of WhatsApp for Android.

This feature will make it easier for users to start conversations when their contacts are active, allowing them to quickly see who is available, making communication faster and more effective.

Currently, the only way to know if a contact is online is by opening a chat with them, which requires users to check multiple conversations individually—making the process more time-consuming.
