Google has begun testing a beta version of its Gemini AI application for Apple Mac computers, aiming to compete with existing AI apps like ChatGPT and Claude, which already have standalone macOS versions.
Early Access Beta for Feedback
Google released an initial version of Gemini to a limited group of external testers. The goal is to gather user feedback and identify bugs before the official launch, according to a recent Bloomberg report.
Testers were informed that the current build is preliminary, including only core features, with additional capabilities expected in later versions.
Key Features of Gemini
The app offers a wide range of AI functionalities, including:
Generating images, videos, and audio content
Data analysis and creating tables or charts
Solving mathematical problems
Online research
Reviewing previous conversations and analyzing uploaded files
Providing a personalized user experience
Desktop Intelligence: A New Interactive Feature
Gemini will include “Desktop Intelligence,” allowing the app to access data from other Mac applications, such as calendars, to provide customized answers. This feature works by analyzing what’s visible on the screen and extracting relevant data while using Gemini, enhancing interaction and productivity.
Expected Public Launch
The app carries the codename “Janus”, and the start of external testing signals that the official release is approaching. While Google has not confirmed a launch date, it is expected to coincide with the company’s developer conference in May.
This move strengthens Google’s push into AI applications and positions Gemini as a comprehensive tool for creative, analytical, and productivity tasks on Mac devices.
