Sambousek with minced meat is one of the most popular Middle Eastern appetizers, especially during Ramadan and festive occasions. It’s known for its crispy exterior and flavorful filling made with minced meat, onions, and traditional Arabic spices. Despite its elegant appearance, it’s simple to prepare at home.
Cooking Time: 60 minutes
Serves: 6 people
Ingredients
For the Dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
A pinch of salt
Warm water (as needed for kneading)
For the Filling:
300 g minced meat
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
A pinch of salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon mixed spices
½ teaspoon cumin
½ teaspoon paprika
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
Instructions
Prepare the Dough:
In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and oil.
Gradually add warm water while kneading until a smooth, firm dough forms.
Cover and let the dough rest for about 15 minutes.
Prepare the Filling:
Heat some oil in a pan over medium heat and sauté the onions until soft.
Add the minced meat and cook until browned.
Stir in garlic, salt, black pepper, mixed spices, cumin, paprika, and cinnamon.
Mix well, remove from heat, and fold in the chopped parsley.
Let the filling cool slightly.
Assemble the Sambousek:
Divide the dough into small, equal-sized balls.
Roll each ball into a circle and place a teaspoon of filling in the center.
Fold the dough into a triangle or half-moon shape and seal the edges tightly to prevent the filling from spilling during frying.
Cook the Sambousek:
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
Fry the sambousek for about 3 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
Place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serve hot and enjoy!
