Oil stains on clothes can become very stubborn if not treated quickly. Here are several effective home remedies for removing old oil stains:
1. Cornstarch Method
Sprinkle cornstarch on the stain and leave for 30 minutes to absorb the oil.
Brush off excess starch and rub the stain with a microfiber cloth dipped in vinegar.
Air dry before washing.
2. Carbonated Drink Method
Pour a small amount of soda on the stain and leave for 2 hours.
Wash the garment normally. For larger stains, add soda to the washing machine drawer.
3. Aloe Vera Gel
Apply aloe vera to the stain, rub for a few minutes, then wash with cold water.
4. Shampoo
Cover the stain with shampoo, rub gently with a clean cloth, leave for 15 minutes, then wash normally.
5. Chalk Powder
Grind chalk into powder, sprinkle on the stain, rub lightly, leave for 15 minutes, then wash. Repeat with cold water if needed.
6. Rust Remover (for certain fabrics)
Test on a hidden area first. Spray the stain, leave 20 minutes, then soak in hot water and wash normally.
Not recommended for silk.
7. Hair Spray
Spray on the stain, then wash and dry as usual.
8. Lemon Juice
Rub half a lemon on the stain, leave to dry, then wash normally.
9. Baking Soda Paste
Make a paste with baking soda and water, apply on the stain until dry. Brush off and wash.
For stubborn stains, add a few drops of dish soap and soak in hot water for 20 minutes before washing.
10. Vinegar
Soak the stain in vinegar (or vinegar + hot water for colored clothes), rub, and air dry.
11. Hot Water & Dish Soap
Pour boiling water on the stain in the bathtub, scrub with an old toothbrush, add lemon-scented dish soap, rub with a sponge, then wash normally.
12. Toothpaste (for leather or small stains)
Use white toothpaste, leave for a few minutes, rub with a kitchen tissue, and repeat until the stain disappears.
By applying these methods, old oil stains can be effectively removed, restoring your clothes’ cleanliness and freshness without damaging the fabric.
