WhatsApp Launches on Apple Watch and Tests New Privacy-Focused Calling Feature

WhatsApp continues to develop new tools and features to enhance the user experience. The latest update introduces the availability of WhatsApp on Apple Watch, allowing users to read and reply to messages directly from their wrists.
The new feature is currently in beta testing for iOS version 25.32.10.71, available through TestFlight.

WhatsApp Now Available for Apple Watch

According to WABetaInfo, users who wish to use WhatsApp on their Apple Watch will need to keep their iPhone nearby, as the app relies on the phone’s connection for operation.

By bringing WhatsApp to Apple Watch, the company aims to offer a more seamless and connected chat experience, similar to the WhatsApp Wear OS version already available for Android devices. This move enhances the usability of WhatsApp on wearable devices, expanding the ecosystem of connected communication tools.

The new Apple Watch app supports quick replies, emoji reactions, and connection status indicators, allowing users to interact with their messages without unlocking their iPhones. Users can browse recent chats, view pinned and disappearing messages, and even create or dictate new messages with ease.

Additionally, the update includes support for voice messages and emoji reactions, giving users more flexibility when communicating on the go. This release also paves the way for future updates that could bring even more advanced smartwatch functionality.

New Feature Enhancing WhatsApp Call Privacy

In its weekly report, WABetaInfo also revealed that WhatsApp is testing a new privacy feature for calls that allows users to make voice and video calls using usernames instead of phone numbers.

This feature is designed to protect user privacy, enabling communication through the “Calls” tab by searching for usernames and initiating calls while displaying only limited profile information.

Notably, calls made using usernames will still be protected by end-to-end encryption, the same security standard used for traditional WhatsApp calls. Users will also have control over who can contact them, reducing spam and unwanted calls while maintaining a higher level of privacy and independence.
