YouTube Introduces AI-Detection Tool to Protect Content Creators

YouTube has launched a new technology aimed at detecting similarities between naturally created videos and AI-generated videos that misuse creators’ images or voices. According to YouTube’s spokesperson, this is the first stage of the rollout, designed to protect content creators from unauthorized use of their likenesses.

AI-Generated Video Detection

The new tool targets videos that use creators’ images or voices without permission, including cases where AI-generated content:

  • Misrepresents the creator.

  • Promotes products or services without consent.

  • Spreads misinformation using celebrities’ or creators’ likenesses.

According to TechCrunch:

  • Users can verify a video’s origin or identity.

  • Requests can be submitted for removal of the video under YouTube’s privacy or copyright policies.

  • Videos can also be archived if desired.

  • Creators can opt out of the detection system at any time, after which YouTube stops scanning their videos after 24 hours.

YouTube partnered with the Artists Rights Agency to help creators and celebrities identify AI-generated content using their images. Their slogan for the initiative is: “Say No to Fakes”, tackling AI-generated videos that imitate voices or images to mislead viewers.

New Restrictions for YouTube Premium Family Accounts

YouTube also updated its Premium Family plan policies:

  • Previously, users could join Premium Family without strict checks.

  • Under the new rules, all members must reside at the same address to qualify.

  • Accounts are now verified electronically every 30 days.

  • Living in different households may result in loss of Premium Family benefits.

YouTube is taking these steps to protect creators, prevent misuse of AI-generated content, and ensure fair use of Premium Family subscriptions.
