Meta Launches “Ghost Posts” on Threads for Temporary, Private Sharing

In a move to enhance user experience, Meta has introduced a new feature on its Threads app called “Ghost Posts.” These posts are automatically archived 24 hours after being published, similar to the popular “Stories” feature on Instagram and Facebook.

A Feature Similar to Instagram and Facebook Stories

The new feature aims to boost engagement on Threads by expanding content-sharing options. Ghost Posts allow users to share temporary updates without permanent visibility, mimicking the ephemeral nature of Stories.

Replies to these Ghost Posts are sent directly to the user’s inbox, while other users cannot see who liked or responded to the posts.

A New Interface and Protected Experience

Meta stated on its official blog:
"You can share spontaneous thoughts and new opinions without the pressure of permanence or the need to edit."

Ghost Posts can be created through the usual posting menu. On the homepage, these posts appear as gray chat bubbles to differentiate them from regular posts.

About Threads

Launched in 2023 as a competitor to Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter), Threads had 400 million active users as of August 2025.

The app allows users to post text updates, photos, and short videos up to five minutes long, and it supports login using an Instagram account.
