TikTok Introduces New Messaging Features to Enhance User Experience

TikTok has launched a series of new features aimed at providing users with an enhanced experience on the app. Users can now interact in multiple ways through the messaging inbox, including sending voice notes, sharing photos, and videos in both individual and group chats.

This move aims to attract more users and compete with other platforms, particularly Instagram. According to the company’s statement to TechCrunch, these features will be available in the coming weeks.

New Messaging Features on TikTok

Voice Messages
TikTok now supports voice messages, allowing users to record and send audio clips of up to 60 seconds. This feature targets increasing engagement, especially among Gen Z users.

Photo and Video Sharing
Users can either capture a photo or video with their camera or select one from their gallery to share in messages. However, images and videos cannot be sent in the first message to a new user.

Privacy Note
Direct messaging is unavailable for users under the age of 16 to protect their privacy and safety.

These features build on TikTok’s previous updates, including:

  • Group chats with up to 32 participants.

  • Content creator chat rooms, designed for creators and followers to interact directly.

Campus Connections Feature

Recently, TikTok introduced a new feature similar to Facebook’s campus tools, called “Campus Verification”, which allows university students to search for and connect with peers on their campus.

With this feature, students can:

  1. Visit a user’s profile and click Add University.

  2. Enter the university name and graduation year to add their academic email.

  3. Filter results by graduation year to see users who have added the same university.

  4. Sort the list to show the most-followed users first.

This feature simplifies networking among students and strengthens campus connections within the TikTok community.
