The air fryer has become an essential kitchen appliance for healthy cooking. However, despite its ease of use, Sante magazine points out that there are certain foods you should avoid cooking in it:
1. Large Cuts of Meat
Avoid placing large pieces of meat in the air fryer, as they can block proper air circulation. This may result in the outside being overcooked while the inside remains undercooked. It’s best to cut the meat into smaller pieces before air frying.
2. Certain Types of Cheese
Soft or melting cheeses should not be placed in the air fryer when fully exposed, as they can burn, melt unevenly, or lose their flavor. In some cases, melted cheese may even damage the appliance. Cheeses to avoid include:
-
Parmesan
-
Ricotta
-
Cream cheese (like Philadelphia)
-
Goat cheese
-
Gorgonzola
3. Leafy Greens
Vegetables like spinach and lettuce—which are rich in water—do not do well in the air fryer. These greens can fly around during cooking and potentially damage the device. It's better to cook such vegetables using traditional methods like sautéing or steaming.
4. Rice and Pasta
Do not cook rice or pasta in an air fryer, as they require a lot of water, which the air fryer is not designed to handle. These foods are better prepared using boiling or steaming techniques.
