WhatsApp Tests New Features to Improve Call Experience

WhatsApp, the most popular and widely used instant messaging platform worldwide, has started testing a set of new features designed to enhance voice and video call experiences. These features aim to improve usability in work environments and generally enhance the user experience.

New Features on WhatsApp

These features are being tested as part of the beta version (2.25.10.16) for Android users and include:

  • Mute Microphone before Answering Voice Calls

  • Disable Camera before Answering Video Calls

  • Emoji Reactions During Video Calls

These features are aimed at improving user experience, enhancing privacy, and allowing quicker interactions during calls.

1. Mute Microphone Before Answering Voice Calls

According to "WABetaInfo," a technology site specializing in WhatsApp updates, the first feature lets users mute their microphone directly from the notifications panel when receiving an incoming voice call. This is especially useful in noisy environments or meetings where users can answer the call without speaking right away, giving more control over privacy and behavior during calls.

2. Disable Camera Before Answering Video Calls

The second feature allows users to turn off the camera before answering an incoming video call. This is useful for unexpected video calls or calls from unknown numbers, as it provides more control and reduces the discomfort of unexpectedly appearing on camera. This feature is particularly helpful when the user wants to take a moment before showing their face or prefers not to use video at all.

3. Emoji Reactions During Video Calls

The third feature adds a new interactive touch, allowing participants in video calls to use emojis to react instantly during the call. This could include sending a thumbs-up emoji to show agreement, a laughing emoji in response to a joke, or a heart emoji to express appreciation. This enhances the user experience by making calls more lively and flexible.

Gradual Rollout of the New Features

These new features have begun to appear for a limited number of users on the Android beta version of WhatsApp. The availability of these features is expected to gradually expand over the coming weeks, reaching more users worldwide.

WhatsApp confirmed through its official blog that it will continue to make improvements for users in the upcoming periods, including ongoing support for high-quality private calls and more new features for desktop users.
