Custard is one of the oldest and simplest classic desserts in Western cuisine. It’s known for its smooth, creamy texture and rich flavor. It can be served warm or cold as a light dessert, and it’s also used as a base for many pastries such as tarts, éclairs, and more.

-
Milk: 2 cups (full-fat)
-
Egg yolks: 4
-
Sugar: 1/3 cup

-
Cornstarch: 1 tablespoon
How to Prepare Classic Custard
-
Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat without letting it boil, then turn off the heat.

Gradually pour the warm milk into the mixture while stirring continuously.
-
Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over very low heat, stirring constantly with a wooden or silicone spatula until it thickens.

Turn off the heat and stir in the vanilla.
-
Strain the custard through a fine sieve to remove any lumps.
-
Pour the custard into serving cups and serve immediately.
