Apple is set to release the final version of iOS 26, bringing a wide range of features—including advanced parental controls—to help protect children from inappropriate content and safeguard their privacy when using smartphones.
Currently, parents can already manage screen time and approve purchases. However, the new update goes further, adding tools that automatically block unwanted content and strengthen controls over who children can contact.
New Parental Control Features in iOS 26
1. Contact List Management
Parents will be able to define a list of approved contacts. If a child receives a call or message from an unknown number, they must request permission from a parent before responding.
2. Blocking Inappropriate Content
iOS 26 introduces automatic filtering and blurring of sensitive or inappropriate content that children might encounter accidentally—similar to the Sensitive Content Warnings introduced in iOS 17.
3. Age-Based App Ratings
The system will enforce stricter age classifications for apps, giving parents more control over which applications are suitable for their child. It also adds management options for in-app advertisements.
Protecting Children Online
Apple has detailed its age-rating system under the initiative Helping Protect Kids Online, which categorizes app content by age group:
-
4+: No inappropriate content.
-
9+: May include mild cartoon or fantasy themes, infrequent mild language, or light scary content.
-
13+: May include mild or infrequent medical references, fantasy violence, or more intense competitions.
-
16+: New category. Apps may allow unrestricted internet access, intense or frequent mature content, or medical/treatment-related references.
-
18+: New category. Apps may contain repeated violent simulations, mature content, or other inappropriate materials.
📱 With iOS 26, Apple emphasizes child safety, digital wellbeing, and family privacy, marking a significant step in strengthening parental controls across its ecosystem.
