Apple appears to be working on a new AI-powered wearable device, designed to be worn as a pin on clothing. The device is expected to feature two cameras and three microphones, signaling a potential leap forward in the AI device market.
Apple’s First AI Wearable Device
According to TechCrunch, the wearable is predicted to be similar to wireless earbuds, described as a thin, flat circular disc made of aluminum and glass—roughly the size of an AirTag but slightly thicker.
The device will include:
Two cameras: one standard lens and one wide-angle lens for capturing photos and videos.
A physical button for control.
A speaker for audio output.
A rear charging strip similar to Fitbit devices.
Apple aims to launch this wearable soon to compete with a forthcoming AI device from OpenAI, with an expected release in 2027 and an initial production of 20 million units.
OpenAI’s AI Device Announcement
Earlier, Chris Lehan, Chief Global Officer at OpenAI, stated on Monday, January 19, 2026, that OpenAI plans to unveil its first AI-powered device, described as “highly anticipated,” in the second half of 2026, positioning it as a strong competitor to Apple’s wearable.
Turning Siri into an AI Chatbot
Apple also revealed plans to upgrade Siri into an AI conversational robot, making it more similar to ChatGPT. This AI-powered Siri, named Campos, will handle both voice and text inputs and is expected to be integrated into iOS 27.
The official announcement is likely at the WWDC conference in June, highlighting Apple’s effort to compete directly with OpenAI in the rapidly evolving AI device space.
