TikTok has introduced a new feature that allows users to explore what is happening around them. According to the company, the Nearby Feed was designed to help users discover places such as a new restaurant near their homes or find new spots to visit while traveling.
The new feature will be available to a limited number of countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Germany. Content will be displayed based on location, topic, and posting time. TikTok emphasized that the feature prioritizes safety and user privacy, making location sharing optional. It is also available only to users 18 years and older.
How the Nearby Feed Works
According to TechCrunch, the Nearby Feed enables users—especially content creators—to view local content related to travel, events, food and drinks, and other services, based on their interests and interaction. This means that posts will be visible to people located in the same city where the content was published.
When the feature is enabled, TikTok may use the device’s GPS location to provide more accurate recommendations. For iOS users, a visual indicator will appear whenever location access is active.
Eligibility and Reach
TikTok confirmed that the Nearby Feed will not be available to users under 18, nor to private accounts or those who share content only with friends. The feature benefits content creators and businesses who want their posts to reach a wider audience.
Creators can increase visibility, attract more visitors, and boost real engagement simply by adjusting their location. TikTok collects location data in accordance with the local laws of each region. As for expanding the feature to new markets, TikTok has not issued an official statement yet.
How to Access the Feature
Users can easily access the Nearby Feed from TikTok’s main screen. The tab will not display the name “Nearby” but will show the closest location instead.
