How to Make Homemade Scented Wipes: A Step-by-Step Guide

Scented wipes are essential everyday items. They are effective for wiping dirt while leaving a fresh fragrance behind. The following guide explains the most important steps to help you make scented wipes at home, saving you the cost of frequently buying them.

Homemade Scented Wipes – Step by Step

1. Cut the paper towels
Start by cutting a roll of paper towels in half horizontally using a sharp, clean, serrated knife. Use only one half for the process (you can keep the other half for later).

2. Place in a container
Put the half-roll in a clean, disinfected plastic container with a tight-sealing lid.

3. Boil the water
Boil two cups of tap or drinking water for about two minutes.

4. Prepare the mixture
Add baby bath liquid soap and baby oil to the hot water using the following ratio:

  • 2 tablespoons of baby bath soap

  • 1 tablespoon of baby oil
It is recommended to use well-known brands suitable for sensitive skin.

5. Pour the mixture
Pour the mixture evenly over the paper towels. If you have a measuring cup or a small pitcher, use it to pour more easily.

6. Remove the cardboard
Once the paper is soaked, pull out the cardboard tube from the center. It will slide out easily.

7. Close tightly
Seal the container tightly to prevent the liquid from evaporating, just like commercial wet wipes.

How to Use and Store

Pull the wipes from the center and make sure to close the container after every use. Freshness and moisture can last up to a week. If they dry out, simply prepare more liquid and pour it over the dry roll to refresh it.

Additional Information and Tips

Commercial wipes contain moisturizing and cleansing agents. The baby soap and baby oil help mimic these properties.

Storage and Shelf Life

Homemade wipes do not contain industrial preservatives, so their shelf life depends on the formula and storage conditions:

  • Solutions containing rubbing alcohol can last up to four weeks.

  • Solutions containing vinegar begin to lose effectiveness after two weeks.

To extend shelf life:

  • Always use distilled water to reduce the risk of microbial growth.

  • Close the container tightly when not in use.

  • Store at 24°C (75°F) or below.

  • Avoid inserting fingers inside the container—use tongs or pull from the outer edge.

  • If using cloth wipes, wash them in hot water with unscented detergent after each use.

  • Discard the batch if you notice cloudiness, separation that doesn’t blend after shaking, or a bad smell.

Customize the Scents for Each Room

Scented wipes don’t need to have the same fragrance. You can customize them depending on the room and purpose. Along with baby soap and baby oil, add:

  • Lemon and rosemary oils for kitchen grease removal and fresh scent.

  • Tea tree and eucalyptus oils for bathrooms—great against mold and fungi with a spa-like freshness.

  • Lavender and orange oils for living rooms to create a calming and refreshing atmosphere.

  • Peppermint and orange oils for home offices—helps reduce mid-day fatigue.
