Google Maps Introduces New Battery Saver Mode on Pixel 10 Phones

Google has announced the rollout of a new feature in its Google Maps app designed to conserve battery life. The feature has started appearing on Pixel 10 phones as part of the November 2025 Pixel Drop update.

According to Google, the “Battery Saver Mode” can extend phone battery life by up to four additional hours, making it particularly useful during long trips where charging the phone while using it on the dashboard is difficult.

How to Activate Battery Saver Mode

The new mode works in portrait orientation only and on the lock screen, transforming the app into a simplified monochrome design that maintains the basic map while displaying only essential information, such as the next turn and estimated travel time. Extra data, like current speed, is removed.

Users can scroll down to review notifications, and the app returns to the normal view when the power button is pressed, the screen is touched, or the destination is reached.

Google noted that the mode is enabled by default via an update but can be disabled manually:

  1. Open Google Maps settings.

  2. Go to NavigationDriving options.

  3. Toggle the Battery Saver Mode on or off.

Practical Benefits for Drivers

The feature is particularly useful for drivers relying on their phones instead of dedicated GPS systems. It can extend usage time during long trips and reduce the need for portable chargers. This may be crucial in emergencies or when traveling in remote areas.

Currently, the feature is limited to Pixel 10 devices, as Google often launches new capabilities first on its own devices before expanding to others. The company also plans to integrate Battery Saver Mode into Android Auto in the future.
