Google has launched a new feature that allows users to change their Gmail email addresses without losing access to their messages or connected accounts. This is especially helpful for users who feel embarrassed by old email addresses like LazyCool3030, often created during high school.
With this new update, users can change their email address while still receiving messages sent to the old address in their inbox. Google also ensures seamless login to other accounts linked to the old email, as the old address will become an alternate email for the new one. All messages, photos, and files associated with the old address will remain intact.
Changing Your Gmail Address
Previously, changing a Gmail address was difficult because it could disrupt access to important messages and linked accounts. Users often had to either continue using an embarrassing old address or create a completely new email for work or study purposes.
With this new feature, Gmail users can now easily update their @gmail.com address without losing access to old emails or accounts connected to the old email, such as Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms.
However, there are limitations:
Users can only change their email once per year.
A maximum of 3 new email addresses can be created; after that, the new email cannot be changed.
Currently, the feature has not yet rolled out directly to all users. According to reports from 9to5Google, it will be gradually released, and Google is in communication with media outlets to confirm the rollout schedule.
Gemini on Android
In a separate update, Google announced replacing its voice assistant with Gemini, which allows users to use Gemini’s AI capabilities without their interactions being used to train AI.
Regarding the rollout schedule, Google stated:
"We are adjusting the timeline to ensure a smooth transition."
Once the switch to Gemini is complete, users will no longer have access to the Google Voice Assistant on Android devices meeting the minimum requirements for Gemini, nor will they be able to download the Google Voice Assistant app.
This update makes managing Gmail addresses much more flexible while maintaining continuity across linked accounts and services.
